Just because you have decided to put your dog on a raw dog food diet, it does not mean that you just give it chunks of whatever is not cooked.

There are things that you should remember if you want to make sure that your dog gets the nutrients it needs as well as ensure that it enjoys its raw dog food diet.

Making a raw food meal does not really entail much since it will be given raw, but you do have to remember to create a balanced diet for your pet.

In the wild, dogs and similar canines, like wolves or foxes, have access to both meat and vegetables, so you will need to include both of these in his diet.

Natural hunting methods will allow them to consume animal organs as well.

Thus, it will be okay to serve your dog these as well.

Must of what wild animals can get in the wild will be composed of muscle meat attached to the bones.

Therefore, a large portion of the raw dog food you give your dog will be composed of this.

The amount of food that a dog will consume will be proportional to its size, so you will need to adjust what you prepare.

Remember never to cook bones as these can make them brittle, and lead to splinters breaking off and hurting your dog.

When preparing raw dog food, it is important to remember to have variety.

Dogs will eat most any type of meat – beef, chicken, pork, turkey, rabbit and others.

The organs from these will also be good (liver, kidneys, intestines etc).

Fish can also be served and you are best off making use of organic fish rather than those which are frozen.

Meat should be chopped up into chunks depending on the size of your dog.

Smaller ones will require you to cut meat into smaller pieces while larger dogs can chew on bigger pieces.

You can mix in chop or ground vegetables into the meats.

Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, green beans or whatever is in season may be used.

You can even mix in eggs, yogurt and seaweeds into this.

Many opinions have been raised as to whether or not grains should be included in raw dog food diets.

Dogs do not have the capability to digest and break down such.

Neither do they have the nutritional requirement for complex carbohydrates in their diet.

Also, many dog allergies and skin problems arise from grain based products.

Basing on these facts, it may be better to stay away from grains.

Bones will also be appropriate for your dog.

Remember never to cook bones as these can make them brittle, and lead to splinters breaking off and hurting your dog.

Many dog owners have qualms about giving their dogs chicken bones, but these are completely nutritious and fine to serve just as long as you do not cook them.

Some owners opt to grind the bones, but it is better to serve whole bones to your dog most especially if they can tolerate it.

Preparing a raw food diet for your dog does not have to be complex nor tedious.

Just remember to give your dog what it needs and you will surely have a happy and healthy dog.
